Adopt-a-Mentor Program
Are you learning how to teach with technology through trial and error?
It is relatively easy to learn
course management systems, but it is difficult to design and teach a
fully-online course. Our new, experimental Adopt-A-Mentor Program is the re-assuring way
ahead to great teaching with technology.
Formal peer-to-peer mentoring is a powerful tool for the advancement of
faculty who seek guidance, encouragement, and support in the
often lone road to figuring out how to teach with technology,
particularly in fully-online courses.

What does the Adopt-a-Mentor
Program provide?
- Positive role models: By offering encouragement and
support, the Mentors foster aspiration towards and information about
best online teaching practices.
- Offer guidance on 'how-to' questions on features and
good uses of Etudes.
- Provide a general overview of the design of your course and
offer tips and suggestions
for possible adjustments or enhancements.
- Direction about how to explore and adopt alternative pathways to
designing a course that engages students in the learning process.
- Your mentors are your virtual colleagues. They log into your
course weekly to check with you as to how you are doing and to advise and support you
with online teaching challenges you may be facing, and to celebrate your successes with
you.
- Mentors are not your technical support. They are not
teaching assistants nor graders. They are resourceful and will point you
to good support and resources.
- Mentors and Mentees communicate within Etudes course
sites via private messaging (not email or phone) at times mutually
agreed upon by both. There are no real meetings. The engagement ends at
the end of the term.
- Our mentors are certified Etudes trainers and veteran
online instructors. You may have 'met' them in our online training or in
the Users Group! They have completed our
Cyber Teachers Institute or
other advanced, graduate coursework in Online Teaching & Learning. They
have taught with Etudes for several years.
See mentor profiles.
- Adopt a Mentor for one (1) course / term for US $500.
