Returning to home page of tools

Question: What's that Jiffy Lube icon and why do I need to know about it?

Have you ever found yourself stuck in a page within your Etudes course site and couldn't figure out how to return to its home page or table of contents, without logging out and back in? If so, keep reading!

Here is an inquiry we received from a student:

"I often work on an assignment, wonder away to do something else, and when I return to assignments to work on the next one, I can't figure out how to get to the home page of assignments. The tool is stuck where I left it. Do I have to log out and back in to clear its stuck state? That works but it not efficient. Is there another way to get back to the home page of tools? Please advise." - Anonymous

Yes! There are two other ways to get back to a tool's home page without logging out and back in.

  1. The typical approach to returning to the home page of the area you were working on is to finish what you were doing. At the bottom of the page that you opened, there will always be a button for 'done', 'submit,' 'save as draft,' 'cancel', etc. Finishing the action you started will get you back to the home page or table of contents of your class site. If you are not ready to submit work, just click on Cancel to get out.

    OR,

  2. Click on the Jiffy lube icon (also known as the 'Reset' button) that is available on each tool (top left corner). It looks like this. Jiffy Lube icon The Jiffy lube icon works sort of like the Cancel button. It is a link back to that tool's home page (landing page or table of contents). All the tools except for Discussions & PM have one of those Jiffy Lube icons and they all work the same way.

Suppose you are viewing an assignment in the AT&S area.... as in the image below:

Clicking on the jiffy lube, will return you to the home page of a tool. This is a quick way to return to the home page of a tool, if you are NOT in the middle of work! You can use the Jiffy reset button to return to a tool quickly when navigating around. Otherwise, please use the "continue", "save", "finish," etc. buttons to ensure that your work is properly saved.

(By the way, we are calling it a Jiffy Lube icon because it is a curly arrow that looks like Jiffy Lube's logo. It's not related to Jiffy Lube at all.)
