When composing modules, you may want to link to uploaded documents.
Here are instructions for doing so. The example is with Sferyx Editor, but the steps are similar in CK Editor.
You can insert a link to just about any kind of document you want … word, image, QuickTime, pdf, etc. This procedure uploads the document to the system, so you don’t have to keep it on your computer.
To upload a local file into your lesson (inserted as a link), follow these steps:
- Type some text and select it
Click on the Insert Link icon
Click the Browse button
Locate the file on your desktop and double-click to select that file
- You will be returned to the Hyperlink Properties dialog box. The URL: box is now filled in.
- Under the Target frame pop-down menu, choose _blank. This sets it so the document will automatically open in a new window. Depending on how the user’s browser is set up, the document may (most likely) will be saved out on their desktop.
- Once the target frame is set, click the OK button at the bottom of the window.
The link is now established.
To test your links, click on “View” at the menu bar and navigate to the section. When you click on it, it will open the file in your application, or it will prompt you to open it or save it. This depends on your browser’s settings for attachments.
